National Park

Taebaeksan

Taebaeksan (Central Eastern region)
Previously a provincial park won the Korea's 22nd national park. Probably the best place in Korea for experiencing all four seasons, Taebaeksan is famous for year-round hiking! In spring, carpeted with pink rhododendron blooms, the lush forests of summer, sweeping color changes in the fall and the winter whites of a frosty forest. Taebaeksan is well-known among hikers and in Korean culture generally. That¡¯s because Taebaeksan is a sacred mountain: several shamanist shrines are located on the mountain. This mountain has a long history, and is connected to Korea¡¯s mythological founder Dangun. It¡¯s also home to multiple temples, pristine forests and freshwater springs. Geomryongso in the city of Taebaek is the source of the Han River, and Hwangji, the Nakdong River. It also has various and outstanding ecological landscapes including the biggest wildflower habitat in the country (Geumdaebong Peak to Daedeoksan Mountain), yew habitat around Janggunbong Peak, and Baekcheon Valley, the world's southernmost lenok habitat. Thanks to this mountain¡¯s location in the middle of the Baekdudaegan mountain range, there¡¯s a long ridge and plenty of peaks to explore.
