Silk is mesmerizing, luscious, shining and beautiful. Learn about the silk production process and experience a traditional weaving at the master Hur’s workshop passed down for 5 generations. Many dream of weaving with silk, but are scared away by the idea that silk is expensive, tricky to weave, and difficult to care for. Silk can be expensive though some is quite affordable!, but there's nothing to be afraid of, as long as you follow this guide to choosing, weaving, and caring for silk. And it's a wonderful, strong fiber to weave!
During the program, you will also see the modern facility that involves spinning, warping, loading warp and weaving. The silk strand is reeled to spindle and the wheel is operated. The yarn from big hank or spinning wheel is transferred into spindles. These spindles are later used to insert into fly-shuttle which is used in the weaving process. Weaving is done on the fly shuttle pit looms. The weaver interlaces the silk threads of weft and warp. The shuttle passes through the opens formed when the pedal is operated to interlock the threads of warp and the weft. Once the shuttle is passed, the suspended sley is pulled to form the weave.
Overall 3 hours program is an introduction to the world of silk, and you will gain a better understanding of the secrets of textile techniques. From mulberry bush to cocoon, boiling, drying, spinning, reeling, weaving and dyeing that ends the production.
You will be assigned a traditional loom and a master to help you learn the art of weaving. No previous experience is necessary. The proton of woven cloth is wounded to the wooden beam which is located in front of the weaver.
One of the best parts about working with silk is getting to enjoy the way it feels as you weave. Today, you will definitely marvel at a truly unique experience.
