Discover the deep philosophy and unique flavors of Korean temple cuisine at the Korean Temple Food Culture Center. This hands-on experience offers more than just cooking - it is a journey into the mindfulness, balance, and harmony that define Buddhist culinary traditions.
Begin by learning about the principles of barugongyang (the monastic meal ceremony) and the values behind temple food - simplicity, gratitude, and respect for nature. Then, under the guidance of an experienced temple food instructor, you¡¯ll prepare dishes using fresh, seasonal ingredients without meat, fish, garlic, or onions.
As you cook, you¡¯ll experience the peaceful rhythm of temple life, focusing on each movement and ingredient with mindfulness. After cooking, enjoy your meal in a tranquil setting, sharing reflections with fellow participants. This program offers a rare opportunity to taste the spiritual side of Korean cuisine and to understand how food can become a path to inner peace and harmony. Available on Wednesdays and Friday afternoon.
